About Elkhart Indiana

Elkhart, Indiana is a place located in Elkhart County, Indiana. The history of the city started with the first inhabitants that were Native Americans. Then it became part of France, then New Amsterdam, then British North America, and finally the United States of America after the American Revolutionary War.

Elkhart is known as being the recreational vehicle capital of the world. It is a place that possesses beautiful parks and green spaces, and many trails for biking, hiking, rollerblading, etc…

In 1907 the first international bicycle race was held in Elkhart. In 1910 it became a city. In 1911 the Memorial Opera House opened its doors for the first time. In 1996 the city was recognized as a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation, and Elkhart hosted its first RV race.

Elkhart County Historical Museum is open every day of the week except for Monday from Noon to 5:00 PM. Various foods are served at different times, such as lunch from 11:30 to 1:30 PM and dinner from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
